It's Time for Spring Home Maintenance

Spring Property Maintenance Tips

Now that the weather has turned warmer it's time to think about taking care of your home before you get too busy this Summer.

Walking around your home is a good way to make a list of what needs to be done. Here is a list that will help you get started and hopefully avoid some expensive problems in the future.

  •  Check foundation walls, floors, concrete and masonry for cracking, heaving or deterioration. Repair and seal any problems.

  •  Check grading for proper slope away from foundation walls. Water must flow away from the structure and never pond against foundation. Build up soil at any low spots.

  •  Check all wood surfaces. Pay special attention to those near the soil level-for weathering, peeling paint or dry rot. Repair and problems found.

  • Check deck, patio, porch, and exterior stairs and railings for deterioration or damage. Repair and problems found.

  •  Remove debris from gutters and downspouts. Repair any leaks. Observe ladder safety so you can enjoy your summer.

  • Take a good look at your driveway and determine if it needs any cleaning or repair. Look for cracks and settling and  have repaired as needed. Some surfaces benefit from periodic sealing with appropriate materials. Hiring a professional is often the best practice. He will have the proper equipment and knowledge to prolong the service life of you driveway and walks.

A little work now will prepare you for an enjoyable Summer.

Be safe.
